Cotopaxi Hike and Saquisilí Indian Market


The best way to begin to experience the indigenous cultures of Ecuador is visiting the market of Saquisilí. Therefore this program is recommended for people seeking a truly cultural experience and the wonders of Cotopaxi Nat. Park, Saquisilí is not the classic tourist Indian market, here locals highlanders and visitors they get together every Thursday to trade their crops products, animals and daily goods. Day 1 –  Quito – Saquisilí Indian market

Leaving Quito in south direction, we will pass by Machachi village before arriving to Saquisilí where every Thursday take pace an ancient and colorful Indian market. We can share and experience some ways of trading  dealing and their goods, animals and handcrafts  in the same manner as they did in the past. After lunch we will head to Cotopaxi National Park for a short hike around the lake. Overnight in a cozy Lodge (3700 mt).

Day 2 – Cotopaxi glacier

After breakfast, we will drive to the Volcano’s parking place at 4600 mt and hike along a zig-zag trail to the Hut at 4800mt. here we will do a brake and continue our hike to the glacier edge at 5000 mt. Return to our vehicle to Limpiopungo valley and hike in the Paramo of Ruminahi volcano, Late afternoon we will drive back to Quito.

Due to the Saquisili Market, we recommend to start this hike on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday
